Today, technology makes learning more meaningful and significant by recording audio or visual base lessons through podcasting.

Here is Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan’ ESL (English as a Second Language) podcast which I recommend you to subscribe if you are an ESL or EFL (English as a Foreign Language) speaker. They are former professors of applied linguistics and education whose main purpose is to provide accessibility and level of ease in learning the English language.

Subscribe here to access this podcast. Please make sure that you have installed iTunes in your computer. If not, you will be prompted to download it first before proceeding to the ESL podcast.

Maybe at this point you may have already heard about the word “podcasts” or “podcasting” several times and probably wondering (especially if you are a newbie), “What is a podcast?” or “What’s podcasting?”

I have posted in my technology page, Rosario’s Tech Page, some well written descriptions on podcasting. The whole idea of podcasting is having the ability to create or record audio files and publish it live or as active streams where people can subscribe to the feeds. These audio files can be downloaded and stored, and uploaded to a portable audio device such as the famous iPod. If you want to read more about the different descriptions I found on the internet, visit this link.

In the same link, you will find actual podcasts that I have created using a program called, GarageBand which is part of the iLife bundle offered by Apple. It is a software that allows you to create podcasts, music, or movie scores. On the Windows side, there is a similar program called Audacity which is an open source program and free to download. It does not have the same features as Garageband but it is a good alternative for editing and recording audio. There are support documents available but bascially you read and learn on your own.
