As a foreigner of this country, I have acquired my verbal and written communication skills in English through books and teachers’ lesson plans. Today, technology makes learning more meaningful and significant by recording audio or visual base lessons through podcasting.

Here is Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan’ ESL (English as a Second Language) podcast which I recommend you to subscribe if you are an ESL or EFL (English as a Foreign Language) speaker.  They are former professors of applied linguistics and education whose main purpose is to provide accessibility and level of ease in learning the English language.

Subscribe here to access this podcast. Please make sure that you have installed iTunes in your computer. If not, you will be prompted to download it first before proceeding to the ESL podcast.

If you have not tried Unitedstreaming yet, then I recommend for you to try this wonderful and amazing tool. Unitedstreaming is a web-based resource that contains a variety of lessons presented in video form. The online resource stores videos similar to a database and provides detailed information that makes searching for the best and appropriate movies for your class easier. The web-based program likewise allows downloading of full videos or video snippets as long as you follow the licensing or copyright guidelines. If downloading is not your thing, then you can bookmark your favorite videos and store them in your personal folder. You can access your online folder within the program anytime and anywhere.

Unitedstreaming has something new to give to its loyal subscribers. If you have not tried this yet, then it is not too late to investigate the enhanced writing prompt library. Unitedstreaming’s library boasts of more than 500 writing prompts. The new writing prompts are based on the national English/language arts standards for writing from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). In addition, speeches are now a part of the unitedstreaming library, which you can find when you use the content drop-down menu by the search box. Click here for more details.

Meanwhile, netTrekker is another online resource and provides websites that students can use for their research projects, teachers can find a variety of interactive lessons, and classes can search and work on fun-filled games and related activities. This web-based resource has included 21st Century Learning Skills as part of their latest features. I got a chance to browse through it and found very interesting topics on Life Skills, Media Literacy, and Technology Literacy, to name a few. If you have a netTrekker account, I encourage you to find time to visit and enjoy this new feature.
